Alludu Seenu is a 2014 Telugu action comedy film directed by V. V. Vinayak and starring Bellamkonda Srinivas, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Brahmanandam and Tamannaah Bhatia. The film was a commercial success at the box office and received mixed reviews from critics.

Plot

The film revolves around Seenu (Srinivas) and his uncle Narasimha (Prakash Raj), who are in debt and flee to Chennai to escape their creditors. However, they end up in Hyderabad by mistake and discover that Narasimha is the lookalike of a local don named Bhai (also Prakash Raj). Seenu decides to use this to his advantage and pretends to be Bhai's son with the help of Bhai's personal assistant Dimple (Brahmanandam). He also falls in love with Bhai's daughter Anjali (Samantha), who is unaware of his true identity. Things get complicated when Bhai returns from abroad and finds out about Seenu's activities. How Seenu manages to win Anjali's heart and escape from Bhai's wrath forms the rest of the story.

Production

The film marked the debut of Bellamkonda Srinivas, the son of producer Bellamkonda Suresh. The film was launched on 15 February 2013 at Annapurna Studios. The film was shot in various locations such as Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Japan and Switzerland. The film's budget was estimated to be around 40 crore.

Music

The film's music was composed by Devi Sri Prasad and the lyrics were written by Chandrabose, Ramajogayya Sastry, Bhaskarabhatla and Sri Mani. The soundtrack album consisted of six songs and was released on 29 June 2014 by Aditya Music. The song "Labbar Bomma" featuring Tamannaah was a chartbuster and became one of the most viewed Telugu songs on YouTube.

Release

The film was released on 25 July 2014 in more than 1000 screens worldwide. The film received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. The film's runtime was 151 minutes.

Reception

The film received mixed reviews from critics. The Times of India gave the film 3 out of 5 stars and wrote, "Alludu Seenu is a typical VV Vinayak fare that has all the ingredients for a commercial potboiler". Sify gave the film 3 out of 5 stars and wrote, "Alludu Seenu is a regular masala entertainer that has nothing new to offer but still works because of its entertainment quotient". Idlebrain gave the film 3 out of 5 stars and wrote, "Alludu Seenu is a formulaic commercial entertainer that has all the elements to appeal to the masses". Rediff gave the film 2.5 out of 5 stars and wrote, "Alludu Seenu is a predictable fare with some good performances and comedy". Deccan Chronicle gave the film 2 out of 5 stars and wrote, "Alludu Seenu is a disappointing debut for Bellamkonda Srinivas as the film lacks originality and freshness".

Box office

The film opened well at the box office and collected 6.5 crore on its first day. The film went on to collect 25 crore in its first week and 40 crore in its lifetime. The film was declared a hit and became one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of 2014.
